Youth Led Observation Project (YLOP) AimThis project has been established and developed with funding from v inspired, the national volunteering charity. YLOP Involves young people aged 16 – 25 years of age being trained to observe and report on the quality of youth provision across Newham, aiming to ensure that young people have a direct influence over the shape of provision.
Programme ContentYoung people become registered v volunteers and undertake a 4 day training programme, to ensure that they are clear about what to look out for when they carry out the observations, and that they are skilled in being able to provide feedback to project managers. The YLOP team have developed the forms used for recording their observations and for reporting back to project managers ensuring that this is a truly youth led project.
Three groups of young people have now been trained for the role over the last eighteen months and the team have observed all statutory youth centres and the Connexions information, advice and guidance shops, providing recommendations for improvement from a young person’s perspective. The project is vital in ensuring that young people’s views about what is going on are central to any quality assurance of the services being provided to young people in Newham.
